LET THE MASK FALL

You try to learn every tone, dance to each tune, move the way they want you to go. You interpret the atmosphere so you can adjust your vibe, whilst always feeling way out of sync. 

You quiet your ambition, you lower your voice or try to pitch above to fit in. You ask what they want before you decide how you'll be. 

No wonder you're exhausted in this dance we call life!

You sidle in, waiting for judgment. You have words rehearsed to join in their song, yet when the verse is over you feel no joy. For those words of your own, hidden inside? They died of low oxygen and you feel empty and lost. 

Stop right there! Let's start again. For you owe no apology to this world we live in. Let me explain why you're struggling today, for I know it so well, it used to be me. 

You have a song, it's all your own, and you have a dance, that belongs to you. You have the words, plenty of them, and you have a story and a vibe, so cool. 

So leave at the door the need to fit in. Just walk in and own yourself. You don't have to be anyone else. It's time to say what's in your heart. 

Let me say you're perfectly you, and that is absolutely what you must be! So let them disagree, if they choose to, but don't you dare shrink to fit in to their mould. Stand up tall, own your space. And then something magical will take place. 

For you will sing the right tune for those who have the right song. You will fit perfectly where you're meant to be. Your words will help those who need your vibe and you'll know who you are meant to be with when they respond with a smile. 

So, live your life, be truly you. No apology is needed and you can be free. Sing from your heart, live out your dreams. And know that you can never be out of tune. For you are that person you've longed to meet...and you will meet your clan, once you let your mask fall.
